Choosing a laptop for university: what actually matters
Storage type, memory and battery life usually matter more for students than the fastest processor.

Prefer an SSD
A solid-state drive (SSD) makes start-up and opening programs much faster than a traditional hard drive. For most students, 256 GB is a practical minimum.
Memory (RAM)
8 GB is enough for documents, browsing and video calls. Choose 16 GB if you will use programming tools, design software or many browser tabs.
Battery and weight
If you carry the laptop daily, check the manufacturer's battery and weight figures, and remember real battery life depends on usage.
Warranty and service
Ask what the warranty covers, how long it lasts, and where repairs are done.
